Okay, so… *Barefoot After School* is… uh… a lot. Like, a *lot* a lot. It’s about Miiko, a 14-year-old girl who’s *super* into her friend Nami. Like, *really* into her. Like, “if Nami dies, I’d die too” into her. Which, y’know, is a bit much, but hey, teenage emotions, right? Anyway, there’s a sports match, and Miiko’s cheering for Nami like her life depends on it. Spoiler: Nami wins, and Miiko’s over the moon. But then things get… weird. Like, *really* weird. Miiko starts talking about nude paintings and how she wants to know the “true” Nami, and then there’s this whole thing about kissing and love confessions and… yeah. It’s a lot.
Oh, and then there’s Shizuka-sensei, the teacher who’s just kind of there, being all mysterious and driving Miiko home while offering her alcohol. Which, uh, probably isn’t great? But Miiko’s like, “No one loves me!” and Shizuka’s like, “You’re cute, drink this,” and it’s just… what? Also, there’s a scene where Miiko’s like, “Burn everything! Burn my feelings! Burn my existence!” and I’m sitting here like, “Girl, are you okay?”
The positives? The animation’s decent, and the voice acting’s pretty good. Miiko’s obsession with Nami is… intense, but it’s kind of funny in a “what is even happening” way. The negatives? Well, it’s *super* confusing. Like, one minute they’re playing sports, the next they’re talking about nude paintings, and then there’s this whole thing with Shizuka-sensei that feels like it came out of nowhere. Also, the whole “14-year-old girl” thing is… yeah, not great.
Overall, *Barefoot After School* is a wild ride. It’s got drama, weird love triangles, and a lot of yelling. But if you’re into chaotic, over-the-top stories with a side of questionable decisions, this might be for you. Just… maybe don’t think too hard about it.
