Oh boy, where do I even start with this one? "Girl in the Shell" is like if someone took a detective drama, a horror story, and a hentai, threw them into a blender, and hit the "puree" button. The story follows Tokisaka Reiji, a detective whoās apparently so good at his job that he can sniff out turpentine oil on a girlās uniform (because, you know, thatās a totally normal skill). He gets roped into investigating a series of creepy, severed limbs that keep popping up like some macabre treasure hunt. Oh, and thereās a rumor about a guy with a black egg that contains a limbless girl who may or may not be a corpse. Yeah, itās as weird as it sounds.
The hentai part? Well, letās just say Tokisakaās detective skills arenāt the only thing getting a workout. Thereās a steamy scene with Kyouko, a widow whoās clearly been watching too many soap operas, and another with Natsume, a coroner whoās way too into autopsies and, apparently, Tokisakaās āstiffness.ā The sex scenes areā¦ intense, to say the least. Natsumeās enthusiasm for her job (and Tokisaka) is both impressive and slightly terrifying. I mean, who knew a coroner could be so *hands-on*?
On the plus side, the story is bonkers in the best way. Itās got mystery, suspense, and enough weirdness to keep you hooked. The art is decent, and the characters areā¦ memorable, to say the least. On the downside, the plot is so convoluted that you might need a flowchart to keep track of everything. And letās not even get started on the whole āgirl in the shellā thing. Is she a doll? A corpse? A metaphor for existential dread? Who knows! But hey, if youāre into dark, twisted stories with a side of explicit content, this oneās for you. Just donāt think too hard about itāyour brain might explode.
